March Madness has arrived and some experts say millions of dollars will be lost during this work week due to distracted employees. Challenger, Gray, & Christmas is an outplacement firm who has estimated that “more than 50.5 million American workers, or 20%, could participate in office pools this year.” In their findings, that is an increase of 5% from 2015. The outplacement firms also reports that the first week of March Madness could cost employers nearly $4 billion in lost revenue.

Even with the millions of lost revenue and decline in productivity, the outplacement firm feels it would be best for companies to welcome the excitement of the brackets. Office enthusiasm, employee loyalty and engagement could have a greater long-term effect versus any short term productivity gain. So, go have fun with it!
